A senior prosecutor in New York Attorney General Letitia James' office has accused his superiors of wasting taxpayer money by targeting President Donald Trump and his allies without legitimate investigative grounds, according to the New York Post.
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld made the allegations in a weekend email sent to roughly 2,000 employees in James' office, arguing that its resources were being used to pursue "convenient public enemies" instead of crimes affecting New Yorkers.

Wiesenfeld said the office should focus on issues including nonprofit homeless shelter fraud and antisemitic crimes around synagogues, the Post's editorial board reported Sunday.
According to Wiesenfeld, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe instructed him to investigate targets including Trump, Truth Social, and Hewlett-Packard without first establishing "a credible reason for targeting the organizations and individuals."
Wiesenfeld did not allege that James personally gave him those instructions but said he believed Maswoswe was acting at the attorney general's direction.
James, a Democrat, campaigned for office in 2018 while promising aggressive scrutiny of Trump and his businesses.
