Payments to public servants who report corruption or fraud are under active consideration as part of whistleblower protection reforms.
A proposal to reward public sector whistleblowers with cash payments is still a live part of reform discussions, according to Assistant Treasury Minister Daniel Mulino.
Appearing at Transparency International Australia’s (TIA) Whistleblower Symposium this week, Mulino gave stakeholders a status update on the ongoing Treasury review of whistleblower protections.
Now about halfway complete, the statutory review is considering whether current arrangements sufficiently protect whistleblowers, whether there is encouragement or an incentive for disclosures, and whether whistleblowing arrangements support compliance with tax and corporate laws.
