Whistleblower claims refuted by sheriff | Local News | grundycountyherald.com - Grundy County Herald

The Grundy County Herald has received several emails over the past few weeks intended to spark an investigation into the newly elected Sheriff and his deputies.

The anonymous whistleblower, who uses the pseudonym Grundy Patriot (GP) or Pat, insists that The Herald is biased and protects the Sheriff. “It’s been a long running understanding that The Herald protects the Sheriff and it seems even more so with Sheriff Gunter,” Pat said. “There are a lot of issues at the Sheriff’s Office.”

The complaints “Pat” has made included questions and allegations about Chief Deputy Brandon King, former Chief Investigator Barry Parker, Captain Ron Bess, Deputy Kayla Seagraves [sic] and Grundy County Sheriff Heath Gunter. The majority of the queries are related to the Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification of these individuals and their capacity to serve as law officers.

Regarding King, “Pat” asserted that the Chief Deputy “has been fired from every police job he has ever had.” King’s resume includes a position with the Whitwell and Powell’s Crossroads Police Departments, both of which are in Marion County. King said he resigned his position at the Whitwell PD and was fired from the PCPD for insubordination. Sheriff Heath Gunter presented King’s personnel file and records to The Herald and proved that King is fully certified and qualified to perform his duties as Chief Deputy for the GCSO.
