A whistleblower has helped avert the potential assassination of a senior Justice Department official. The official allegedly faced death threats after refusing to sign questionable contracts.
Justice Department spokesperson Palesa Rammitlwa says Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi immediately alerted law enforcement after receiving information about the alleged plot.
The official and her family have since been placed under protection.
Rammitlwa says their actions demonstrate the importance of integrity in the fight against corruption.
“The matter is currently under investigation, and we hope for a speedy breakthrough so that the threat can be permanently eliminated. The actions of the senior official have demonstrated that there are men and women of integrity in the public service who continue to dedicate their lives to serving the public. ”
Rammitlwa adds: “Minister Kubayi has further added that corruption is not a victimless crime and that whistleblowers are critical to our fight against corruption.
