A whistleblower’s tip-off has helped prevent an alleged assassination plot of a senior Department of Justice and Constitutional Development official, who refused to sign questionable contracts.
Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi confirmed that the whistleblower approached her with information about an alleged “intention to kill a senior official” in the department.

According to the department, the official had refused to sign contracts that were considered questionable.
“Upon receiving this information, Minister Kubayi immediately contacted law enforcement agencies to investigate and protect the concerned official,” the department said.
Security measures were subsequently put in place to protect the official and their family.
The matter is now being investigated by law enforcement agencies.
“The matter is under investigation by law enforcement agencies, and we hope for a speedy breakthrough so that this threat can be permanently eliminated,” the department said.

Kubayi praised the official for standing firm despite the alleged threat and commended the whistleblower for coming forward.
