Channel 4's thought provoking drama, Dirty Business, has left viewers moved and angry after exposing the dark behaviour of water companies who have been dumping untreated sewage in the UK's rivers and sea.But now one of the real life whistleblowers in this shocking story has spoken out. For years, Robert Forrester leaked information about how his employer, the Environment Agency, chose to look the other way when it came to water companies dumping toxic waste into British waters. And his diligent efforts led to the scandal being exposed on a national level.

Now, for the first time the former employee of the Environment Agency has spoken out as the Channel 4 docu-drama hit our screens highlighting the preventable tragedy.

The series explains the stories of campaigners who fought hard to get to the bottom of why humans and animals were falling seriously ill and in some cases led to death.

The programme follows the story of how eight-year-old Heather Preen died after being exposed to E.coli after playing on a Devon beach in 1999.

Robert explained to The Times: "There seemed to be a conscious effort to deprioritise water. It was a classic case of ‘if you don’t look for it, you won’t find it’."
