A key legal proceeding is set for Friday in a whistleblower lawsuit by a former special education teacher against the Pasadena Unified School District, alleging workplace misconduct and retaliatory dismissal.
Benjamin Graves will appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court for a final status conference, scheduled for 9 a.m. in Department 31 at the courthouse located at 111 North Hill Street.
The legal action stems from Graves’ allegations that he was forced to resign in 2022 from his position at Focus Point Academy after reporting serious workplace infractions. Specifically, Graves claims he experienced backlash after speaking out about two significant issues: the alleged sexual harassment of female employees and the alleged falsification of student attendance records by a school principal.
Filed in 2023, Graves’ lawsuit seeks damages for what he describes as wrongful termination, retaliation, and violation of whistleblower protections.
The upcoming status conference represents an important procedural milestone, setting the stage for potential trial proceedings by establishing key dates for discovery completion, expert disclosures, and pretrial motions.
The final status conference will determine subsequent legal steps in a case that highlights potential workplace misconduct within the educational system.
