A former prosecutor in New York Attorney General Letitia James' office alleges that his supervisor ordered him to continue investigating President Donald Trump and his associates despite finding no evidence of criminal wrongdoing, claims the office rejects as it defends his dismissal.
Daniel Wiesenfeld, formerly an assistant attorney general in the Investor Protection Bureau, told the New York Post that bureau chief Shamiso Maswoswe directed him to continue an insider-trading investigation involving a company affiliated with the Trump family.
"By June 2026, after several meetings, we had become exasperated," Wiesenfeld said. He said Maswoswe agreed the case should be closed but explained "that it was Tish's call."

"Tish was the boss and what Tish wanted, Tish got," he said. "So we had to keep going."
Wiesenfeld said he was assigned the investigation on July 25, 2025, after an anonymous tip alleged that Donald Trump Jr. and his associates were selling insider information to private companies for millions of dollars.
He said the allegation originated with a "cryptic text" investigators could not substantiate.
"We affirmatively conclude that no crime had taken place," Wiesenfeld said.
Despite his objections, Wiesenfeld said, he was directed to subpoena several banks. He described the continuing inquiry as politically motivated and alleged that James was using public resources to pursue political opponents.
