Cricket Australia has confirmed it is conducting an ‘independent review’ of the controversial $600,000 cloud services contract at the centre of contracts-for-mates allegations — but the whistleblower who first raised the concerns has already lost his job.
The governing body is now under growing pressure, with the Australian Cricketers’ Association understood to be seeking assurances about governance standards in the wake of the scandal.
A passionate long-term Cricket Australia employee, who approached the board with his concerns before going public anonymously via Michael West Media, is understood to have been made redundant shortly after lodging the detailed complaint.
The whistleblower, described by colleagues as a dedicated custodian of the game, presented a comprehensive dossier including ASIC documents, timelines and internal records. He has since been removed from his position.
At the heart of the affair is a cluster of companies with strong connections to Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The senior Digital & Technology executive at the centre of the allegations, along with several rapid senior hires in his division, share professional histories at the NRL and similar South Indian regional backgrounds.
