Whistleblower renews calls for probe into South Winnipeg Community Centre election, spending - Winnipeg Sun

Fresh allegations of election mismanagement and misuse of public funds have surfaced at the South Winnipeg Community Centre, with a whistleblower urging the City of Winnipeg and the General Council of Winnipeg Community Centres (GCWCC) to launch a forensic audit.

In a new letter sent to the Winnipeg Sun this week, the whistleblower says new documentation — including SWCC board minutes showing a motion to destroy election ballots — raises “serious questions” about transparency and accountability at the taxpayer-funded community centre.

The December 2024 board minutes, posted publicly on the SWCC website, confirm the board approved “the disposition of the November 6, 2024 AGM ballot and voting papers.” The motion was carried unanimously.
Community members allege the 2024 election was conducted without oversight, claiming scrutineers and candidates were barred from observing the vote count. Only one candidate, now-president Jennifer Shah, was reportedly allowed into the counting room after the count had concluded.

Unsuccessful candidates Amandeep Plaha and Deepak Walia said they repeatedly requested the official results from both SWCC and GCWCC but received no reply.

Candidate and convenor raises further concerns
