WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump's mail-in voting executive order faced multiple hurdles through legal challenges. However, a whistleblower statement released by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., on Tuesday revealed flaws in the new system.
The whistleblower's statement said the system could hurt the mail-in voting process relied on by one-third of all voters. The whistleblower, who remains anonymous, claims that the Postal Service is rushing to create a complex system in time for the 2026 midterm elections.
Their system is set up to fail – and risk the right to vote for millions of Americans who cast their ballots by mail," Blumenthal said in a written statement. "Given this new information, such sloppiness and haste seems clearly part of a purposeful attempt to create chaos and prevent people from voting. I am demanding answers and accountability.
Due to the new procedures, one mistake in a batch of tens of thousands of ballot envelopes could prevent any from reaching voters.
The executive order, signed by Trump in March, designated the federal government to create state citizenship lists and required the Postal Service to send ballots only to those on the list. Ballot envelopes would comply with the new rules, which include bar codes. The portal- subject of the whistleblower complaint- is used for states to deliver their lists of verified voters to the Postal Service.
