Oxnard– The Finance & Governance Committee, Tuesday, June 27, heard the latest update about Whistleblower activity within the City.
Since June 6, 2022, the City has received 11 complaints through two Whistleblower systems.
Five complaints came through Price Paige, which included four allegations of violations of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. There was one allegation of waste and abuse, and all were deemed non-fiscal or City-related.
The City received six more complaints in the spring from various complaints and allegations; none were deemed City-related.
There are no investigations currently, and each allegation is closed.
The City Council adopted its Whistleblower Hotline Policy in 2016 and allows Oxnard to take any appropriate steps to evaluate allegations of improper Government actions brought to its attention.
Deputy City Manager Shiri Klima presented the item and defined improper action as being “any activity by a local agency or employee undertaken while performing the employee’s official duties deemed to be outside the scope of the person’s employment that violates local, state, or federal law or regulation relating to corruption, malfeasance, bribery, theft of Government property, or omission to perform duties, which is economically wasteful or involves gross misconduct.”
