Rockstar Games' latest delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 may have deeper roots than technical challenges. According to a verified whistleblower from within the company, the recent firing of 30-40 UK employees for alleged "gross misconduct" was actually a union-busting tactic disguised as disciplinary action.
The anonymous Rockstar employee revealed that the fired workers were predominantly union members and leaders of the organizing committee. "Just one week before, the Union had reached ~200 members taking us over the 10% threshold required to seek recognition and begin engaging in collective bargaining," the whistleblower stated. The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) had been organizing around "worsening crunch, inadequate pay and inflexible working arrangements."
The employee emphasized that discussions in the private union Discord focused solely on working conditions, not project leaks. "Those of us who are lucky and remain for now work in fear," they wrote, describing devastated morale at the studio. With many department leads among those terminated, the connection between these firings and the six-month delay of GTA 6 becomes clearer. The IWGB continues seeking reinstatement for all affected workers.
