Ken Paxton’s insistence on using the attorney general’s office to help real estate tycoon Nate Paul diverted state resources away from more serious pursuits, including cases involving Google and the worsening COVID pandemic, a former aide testified on Thursday.
Ryan Bangert, the former deputy first assistant attorney general, said staffers tried for months to stop Paxton, and reporting their boss to the FBI in September 2020 was a last resort.
