WASHINGTON (CNN Newsource) — Issues of transparency, national security and aircraft safety were at the heart of the House Oversight and Accountability subcommittee hearing on UFOs Wednesday.

Among those who testified was U.S. Air Force (Ret.) Maj. David Grusch.

Grusch, a former senior intelligence officer with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers that he became a whistleblower because the government is operating with secrecy and above congressional oversight in regard to UAPs.

Congress has taken more of an interest recently in unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs, as they call them.

He told lawmakers he believes the U.S. government has probably been aware of “nonhuman” activity for nearly 100 years.

In an exchange with South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace, he confirmed non-human "biologics" have been recovered by the government.

"You've stated that the government is in possession of potentially non-human spacecraft. But based on your experience and extensive conversations with experts, do you believe our government has made contact with intelligent extraterrestrials?" Mace asked.
