Whistleblower Troy Stolz denies declaring ‘act of war’ against ClubsNSW - Sydney Morning Herald

Whistleblower Troy Stolz has denied he went “rogue” and started criticising the clubs industry because he tried to start his own business and failed, insisting Australia has “serious issues” with money laundering, which are being enabled by ClubsNSW.

On Friday, Stolz gave evidence for a fifth day in his case against ClubsNSW, which he is suing in the Federal Court in Sydney for defamation and alleged breaches of the Fair Work Act including coercing his new boss to fire him.

He argues he was defamed in three phone calls made by his former manager to his new boss, which denigrated his work performance, and in a memo circulated by ClubsNSW that claimed he registered business names similar to those owned by ClubsNSW.

Stolz is seeking $1.9 million in damages for defamation, plus additional payments including annual leave for incorrectly being considered a contractor between 2012 and 2017.

At the close of the cross-examination, ClubsNSW’s barrister Michael Seck suggested that Stolz intended to provoke the peak body of clubs and engaged in “an act of war” when he registered several business names that were similar to names used by ClubsNSW.

“You knew all those brand names were names which would absolutely be like a red rag to the bull to ClubsNSW,” Seck said.
