The chief economist at Hungary’s competition authority alleged political interference in key cases, as a wave of whistleblowing scandals upends the final week of campaigning in the run-up to a close election that could oust Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

Senior leadership at the state antitrust body halted an internal probe into a merger involving an airport ground handling company whose owner is tied to the ruling Fidesz party, the official Zombor Berezvai said in an interview with independent media outlet Partizan on Monday.
