Whistleblowing reports have risen over 2024, with dishonest behaviour at a “record high”, according to an agency specialising in reporting.
Safecall revealed that over the calendar year to end of 2024, whistleblowing reports rose 16 per cent year on year from 2023. This marked the highest year ever for Safecall.
Reports of dishonest behaviour stood at one in every five reports over 2024, analysis of its data has revealed.
The Safecall Whistleblowing Benchmark annual report is calculated using Safecall’s entire client base, which covers more than 5mn employees in over 1,000 organisations worldwide.
Speaking to FT Adviser, Joanna Lewis, managing director of Safecall, said the findings were simultaneously “positive and negative”.
She explained: “The higher levels of whistleblowing may indicate that there is increased wrongdoing - but it also indicates that there is higher levels of reporting confidence, which is good.”
At a time when the UK government is trying to improve the whistleblowing legislation to “take it far more seriously and give people confidence”, Lewis said the higher levels of confidence in making reports was a positive indicator that people believe actions will be taken.
