Whitehouse Slams Trump Administration’s Lies About Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund Repeal - Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (.gov)

After DOJ makes false claims about GGRF rescission, EPW Ranking Member sets the record straight: “Wishful thinking on the part of DOJ does not moot the ongoing litigation”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee (EPW), issued the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s false claim that Section 60002 of the reconciliation bill, the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” rescinds obligated Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF) funds:

“The Trump Administration has waged a defamatory assault on the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, unlawfully weaponizing the federal government to deprive families of financing to help lower their energy bills, make their communities more resilient, and generate good-paying local jobs. After terrorizing grantees with false allegations of fraud and trying to open bogus criminal cases that went nowhere, EPA froze and then announced the illegal termination of fully obligated and dispersed grants—a dispute that is being actively litigated in the D.C. circuit. Now, Trump’s DOJ is continuing its mischief by falsely claiming Republicans’ Big Beautiful-for-Billionaires Bill claws back $17 billion from GGRF, even though the CBO score for the unobligated funds was $19 million—what was left to oversee the program after the grant funds had been obligated—and Republicans made clear that their rescissions only touched unobligated funding.
