Retired United States Army lieutenant colonel Alex Vindman, one of the most prominent witnesses to testify in the hearings that led to President Donald Trump's first impeachment, is planning to run for U.S. Senator as a Democrat.
Former Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is Florida's junior senator appointed to the seat last year by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Vindman, the former Director of European Affairs for the United States National Security Council, announced his candidacy Jan. 27, in a two-minute campaign announcement posted online.
The video included clips of Vindman testifying before Congress as a key witness in the Ukraine scandal during Trump's first term.
"The last time you saw me was here, swearing an oath to tell the truth about a president who broke his," the Broward County resident says in a voiceover. "See, my family came to America as refugees to escape tyranny, and I sure as hell was not going to bow down to some wannabe tyrant."
