A former high-ranking executive at Meta Sarah Wynn-Williams has ignited a fresh wave of scrutiny against the tech giant with her tell-all memoir, “Careless People – A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism.” In her book, Wynn-Williams has starkly criticised Meta’s leadership, particularly CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former COO Sheryl Sandberg. Her narrative depicts a corporate culture where the relentless pursuit of profit and influence overshadowed ethical considerations, including human rights and democratic principles.

Allegedly, she claims that Meta disregarded repeated warnings about the inherent dangers of its platforms, especially during its rapid expansion into China. She contends that the company’s leadership prioritized growth over addressing these critical concerns. Beyond policy and profit, the memoir paints a picture of a deeply troubled workplace. Reportedly, Wynn-Williams alleged that Zuckerberg and Sandberg were dismissive of reports detailing sexism and systemic double standards within the company. She describes an atmosphere that deteriorated into toxicity, ultimately culminating in her dismissal in 2018.

Further in her memoir, she has attributed her termination to retaliation for raising concerns about Joel Kaplan, Meta’s former VP of global public policy. Reportedly, Meta refutes these claims, citing poor performance and toxic behaviour as the reasons for her departure....
