Good news for minimum wage workers in Connecticut: in 2026, their paychecks will go up.

Under Connecticut law, the state’s minimum wage must be adjusted annually. In September, the Gov. Ned Lamont announced that the state’s minimum wage will increase by 59 cents in 2026.

“Nobody who works full-time should have to live in poverty,” Lamont said in a press release. “This is a fair, modest increase, and the money earned will go right back into our own economy, supporting local businesses in our communities.”

Connecticut has the highest minimum wage in New England and one of the highest in the country.

Last year, Connecticut Commissioner Dante Bartolomeo said that the employment cost index increased by 3.6% over the 12-month period ending June 30, resulting in the 59 cent minimum wage increase.

The law also stipulates that if the federal minimum wage is raised to equal or higher than Connecticut's, the state will raise theirs to 0.5% higher. The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 and has not been raised since 2009.
