Williamson County officials are warning residents about a false social media post claiming ballots will be disqualified if poll workers write on them before voters use voting machines.
The county said it received several calls and emails about the post, which claims that voters should request a new ballot if a poll worker makes any notation on it, including a letter, checkmark, star, “R” or “D.”
The post, written by someone claiming to have completed poll manager training, urges voters to watch poll workers closely and share the warning with others.
However, the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office said the claim is incorrect. A ballot is not disqualified simply because an election official or poll worker makes an administrative notation on it.
Williamson County shared a screenshot of the post to address the claim and encouraged residents to rely on trusted election officials rather than social media posts or rumors for accurate voting information.
Voters with questions about voting procedures or their ballots can contact the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Division of Elections at 1-877-850-4959.
