United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff dismissed the allegations of a rift between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as "preposterous."
Speaking to Breitbart in an interview published on Sunday, Witkoff insisted that "I've been at multiple meetings with the president and the Prime Minister—they’re friendly. They're good friends in fact. ... Israel is a great partner for the United States, strategically, economically, we think very much alike, we have very similar objectives. They don’t want to see a weaponized nuclear state in the state of Iran."
The interview was made public after it was reported that Witkoff told the families of hostages abducted by Hamas that the US wants to return the hostages but that Israel prefers continuing its campaign in Gaza. Previously, it was alleged that Witkoff criticized Israel's take on the hostage crisis and wanted his words to be leaked.
