Woman Arrested for Spreading False Claims That Lawmakers Committed Sex Crimes, Drug Offenses - Seoul Economic Daily

A woman who spread false claims that prominent politicians had committed serious crimes including sexual assault and drug offenses has been handed over to prosecutors under arrest.

Seoul's Yeongdeungpo Police Station said on the 10th that it had referred a 55-year-old woman, identified as A, to prosecutors under arrest on charges of violating the Information and Communications Network Act. A is accused of spreading false information about specific politicians on her social media between August and September 2024.

According to police, A posted three times, naming politicians who had served as party leaders and floor leaders, claiming that they had committed various serious crimes or corruption.

The posts included content such as "Lawmaker B took drugs at a prostitution establishment and killed a person," "Lawmaker C received tens to hundreds of billions of won in bribes," and "Lawmaker D sexually assaulted dozens of people."

Police, who launched an investigation after a complaint filed by a political party, arrested A on the 3rd.
