Woman charged in connection to bomb scare at Roswell airport - KOAT

Investigators determined the woman made false claims against her ex-boyfriend.

ROSWELL, N.M. —

A woman in Roswell has been arrested in connection with a bomb scare made to a Roswell airport.

The U.S Transportation Security Administration notified the Roswell Police Department at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday that Brooke Ayers, 47, had called American Airlines that morning, making a claim about her ex-boyfriend, who was a ticketed passenger and was set to depart on an American Airlines flight from Roswell Air Center in the early afternoon.

As an officer was diverting traffic from the area of the airport terminal, he came in contact with the man who drove a rental vehicle on his way to the terminal. He was detained, and the vehicle containing items belonging to him was left on the side of Earl Cummings Loop near the entrance to the terminal parking lot. The area was blocked off by RPD and NMSP, awaiting the arrival of the NMSP bomb team personnel and a K-9 trained in explosives who was expected to arrive from Albuquerque.

During this time, airline passengers were able to safely access the terminal using a different route.

The Roswell police investigation, assisted by the New Mexico State Police bomb team, determined around 2:45 p.m. that the ex-boyfriend, who was from Indiana, and visiting Ayers in Roswell, had not made any bomb threats and was not in possession of any explosives as he arrived at the air center for a flight he was scheduled to depart on Wednesday.
