A court found a woman guilty of filing a false rape accusation against a man with whom she had consensual sex. Surveillance footage and mobile messages exchanged with the man on the day of the incident served as critical evidence.
Judge Lee Byung-ho of the Criminal 7th Single Division of Changwon District Court sentenced Ms. A, a woman in her 40s, to six months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence on charges of false accusation, the court announced on the 28th.
According to the ruling, Ms. A submitted a false report to Changwon Jungbu Police Station on February 25, claiming, “I was sexually assaulted by Mr. B at a hotel in Seongsan-gu, Changwon City, on February 7.” She repeated this claim during subsequent police investigations. The court rejected this argument. Surveillance camera footage and KakaoTalk messages exchanged with Mr. B were decisive.
After leaving the hotel on the day of the incident, Ms. A was seen walking side by side with Mr. B, exchanging hand gestures and parting ways. She also did not mention the alleged assault to acquaintances she met immediately afterward.
