Eleanor Williams, 22, has been found guilty of perverting justice after she claimed to be trafficked by an Asian grooming gang. According to BBC, Williams was found guilty of eight counts at Preston Crown Court in England.
In May 2020, Williams posted photos of herself on Facebook showing several facial injuries. She claimed that she had been raped and beaten by a group of men who took her to sex parties.
According to The Guardian, thousands of people online rallied to help Willimas get justice but her posts also sparked racial abuse. People smashed the windows of curry houses, boycotted restaurants and chased a Muslim business owner down the street before pouring alcohol on him (many Muslims do not drink alcohol).
Prosecutor Jonathan Sandiford told BBC that Williams went on Facebook and chose random names as victims or perpetrators. They say she sent messages to herself on Snapchat
Williams claimed that business owner Mohammad Ramzan had groomed her since the age of 12. The court found that the claims were false as were other claims she made about Ramzan. According to The Guardian, she alleged that Ramzan took her to Ibiza to be pimped out to a group of men. An examination of Ramzan’s passport determined he had never been to Ibiza.
The prosecution also believes she concocted a story about an Asian grooming gang after watching the BBC drama “Three Girls,” which is based on a true-story.
