Woman Loses Lawsuit Against Marriage Agency Over False Income Claims - 조선일보

A woman who paid 2,700,000 Korean won to be introduced to a "kindergarten director with an annual income of 300 million won (0.3 billion)" through a marriage agency, married the man, and later discovered that both his occupation and income were false, but ultimately lost her lawsuit. This has led to criticism over the marriage agency’s failure to verify identities.

Ms. Lee, 37, from Busan, joined a large marriage agency in February 2022 and paid 2,700,000 Korean won. The agency introduced Mr. A, described as a "kindergarten director with an annual income of 300 million won." The couple married in June of the same year but faced conflicts within a month, leading to divorce proceedings.

However, the truth revealed during the lawsuit was different. Mr. A was actually an administrative staff member at the kindergarten, with an annual income of only 56 million won. The kindergarten was owned by Mr. A’s parents, and he had registered with the agency under the title of director.

In September 2023, Ms. Lee filed a damages lawsuit against the agency, claiming it failed to properly verify her spouse’s information. However, she lost in both the first and second trials, and the Supreme Court dismissed her appeal on the 23rd of last month.
