Manama, Sep. 25 (BNA): The Head of the Cybercrime Prosecution said that the Public Prosecution received a report from the Cybercrime Directorate regarding a video circulated on social media in which a woman alleged that a girl had contacted her claiming that an official at a government entity had exploited his position to harass female job applicants or those seeking promotions, and that she had been one of his victims.
The Public Prosecution opened an investigation to ascertain the facts. When questioned, the woman initially claimed that the story had been relayed to her by an unidentified girl, but later changed her account, alleging that an employee with knowledge of the matter had experienced the same incident.
The employee was summoned and denied the allegation, confirming that the account attributed to her was fabricated and unfounded, adding that the accused had personal motives. The accused was then confronted with the employee’s testimony and with police investigations, which confirmed that the allegation was false and that the content of the video sought to undermine public confidence in government institutions. During questioning, the accused admitted that the story was fabricated.
Accordingly, the Public Prosecution ordered her detention pending investigation on charges of spreading false information and misusing social media.
