WORCESTER, MA — A pharmacy based in Worcester has agreed to paya large sum of money to the U.S. to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act.
Trang Pharmacy, located at 456 Park Ave. in Worcester, has agreed to pay $750,000, the U.S. Attorney's Office of Massachusetts announced on Thursday. The business was accused of billing Medicare for dispensing nine different medications that it did not have.
According to the settlement agreement, the business, owned by Thu Trang Le Chang, admitted that between Jan. 1, 2016, and Jan. 13, 2026, it submitted false claims to Medicare Part D, a program that pays for prescription drugs for patients enrolled in Medicare. The business could not prove that it had purchased the medications.
The government also said that Trang submitted those claims for reimbursement, and it never dispensed the medications to Medicare beneficiaries.
The investigation was a result of a coordinated effort between the U.S. Attorney's Office of Massachusetts and the Justice Department’s Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch, Fraud Section.
