CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — An investigation into the West Virginia State Police spurred by a whistleblower inside the organization continues. The self-professed whistleblower Cpl. Joseph Comer and his lawyer claim a letter has resulted in targeted retaliation by some members of the agency.
On Friday, a new warrant was served in Monongalia County as State Police searched the home of Trooper Wendy Comer. She is the ex-wife of Joseph Comer and they have two children together.
Joseph Comer is subject to a Domestic Violence Protective Order and is free on bond after being accused of felony strangulation and misdemeanor battery by Trooper Vicki Marra. She is the mother of Joseph Comer's son and alleges he attacked her during child custody exchanges in Ritche County.
Conditions of Comer's DVP order and his bond do not allow him to possess firearms. A sworn statement citing Marra and Sgt. K.W. Huddleston prompted the search.
David Moye is Comer’s attorney and spoke with Eyewitness News about the warrant.
“Any type of a possession of a firearm would have been a violation and that's an arrestable offense,” Moye explained. “It's also an offense that could revoke his bond in Ritchie County. Both of those could have possibly incarcerated him.”
