A York County woman was sentenced Friday to 30 months in prison for making false claims about her adoptive daughter's health.
The U.S. attorney's office said Shelley Noreika, 49, of Dillsburg, told medical providers that her 5-year-old experienced seizures, when no such seizures occurred.
Prosecutors said Noreika also admitted to having the child fake a seizure while Noreika videotaped it. The clip was then sent to a pediatric neurologist.
According to prosecutors, Noreika received enhanced Medicare and adoption subsidiaries for taking care of a medically ill child, and she used the false condition to seek donations from local organizations and through online fundraising.
In addition to the prison sentence, Noreika must serve three years of supervised release following incarceration. She was also fined $500 and ordered to pay restitution of $137,710.86.
State charges are pending against Noreika.
The child is no longer in her care.
