Yukon NDP leader says false endorsement claim was 'misprint' - CBC

The leader of the Yukon NDP is apologizing for what she calls a "misprint" in a news release that falsely claimed an endorsement of her party's housing platform.

In a news release on Tuesday, NDP Leader Kate White listed a number of ways her party would tackle the territory's housing crisis if elected next month. Those promises include creating a tenant-landlord relations board, building new subsidized housing units and homes for first-time home buyers, and establishing a Yukon building code.

Under a list of promises, the release says that "White's plan has been endorsed by Da Daghay, a leading First Nation development corporation."

However, Da Daghay — the development arm of the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council — told CBC News that it is not backing any political party in the territorial election campaign.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, White called it a "misprint on our part in the news release," and chalked it up to simply being "pretty busy."

"We're excited about this. I'll just say that," she said.

White also said that she had already apologized to Da Daghay.

"I've thanked them for pointing it out," she said.

The news release on the party's website was changed on Wednesday to remove any mention of Da Daghay.

According to White, Da Daghay "endorsed the portion of home ownership," apparently referring to the party's promise to build 100 homes for first-time buyers "in partnership with Yukon First Nations development corporations."
