'100% false.' Summa refutes Weinstein's claim on families attacking medical staff - Akron Beacon Journal

Rep. Casey Weinstein is standing by his Tuesday claim that a major hospital network CEO reported that there are 25 incidents of families "attacking" staff every day, despite the hospital calling his statements "100% false."

Summa Health CEO Dr. Cliff Deveny had a conference call on Tuesday with a bipartisan group of local elected officials — including Weinstein, D-Hudson; Sen. Vernon Sykes, D-Akron; Rep. Bill Roemer, R-Richfield; and Sen. Jerry C. Cirino, R-Chardon — to discuss the challenges the hospital with COVID-19 cases and the rise of the omicron variant.

Weinstein tweeted immediately after the meeting "Was just briefed by a major hospital network CEO. It's not just that they're beyond capacity. The families of their unvaccinated patients are ATTACKING caregivers for not giving them the 'right' meds and (quack) treatments. 25 incidents EVERY DAY. This. Is. INSANE."

He clarified in a subsequent tweet, that families of patients seeking non-COVID related care are also attacking hospital staff.

Weinstein told the Beacon Journal that Deveny was talking about the recent surge, the lack of capacity and increased wait times, and that Weinstein asked if they have enough staff.
