3 more questioned over false claims on royal stage incident - Free Malaysia Today

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) recorded statements from three more people yesterday regarding “false and racially charged” social media posts about a security breach involving Sultan Nazrin Shah.

MCMC recorded statements from the three people at the Kuala Nerang police station in Kedah, Beserah police station in Kuantan, and northeast district police headquarters in Penang.

On Tuesday, it recorded a statement from PAS’s Manjoi assemblyman Hafez Sabri over a similar social media post on the same incident.

In a statement, MCMC said the posts on Facebook and TikTok had the potential to spark racial tension and create negative perceptions within society.

The posts falsely claimed that the woman who rushed towards Sultan Nazrin on the stage during the Perak state-level National Day celebration on Aug 31 was Chinese.

“The public is reminded to always verify the authenticity of information before creating or sharing content on social media,” said MCMC.

It added that the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years in jail, or both, upon conviction.

Perak police chief Noor Hisam Nordin said yesterday that the 41-year-old woman was referred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan for observation after the expiry of her remand order.
