98-seconds to kill MPs career: Whistleblower tells police everything - Yorkshire Live

The moment whistleblower Gareth Arnold turned his back on disgraced former Sheffield MP Jared O'Mara and reported him for fraud has been released by police.

Following their convictions for fraud, South Yorkshire Police released the audio of Arnold's conversation with a call handler, who he told O'Mara had been submitting false expense claims to IPSA. On Wednesday, O'Mara, 41, who was MP for Sheffield Hallam between 2017 and 2019, was found guilty at Leeds Crown Court of six counts of fraud by false representation and acquitted of two.

His co-accused, Arnold, 30, was found guilty of three out of the six fraud charges. Jurors heard how O'Mara, of Walker Close in Grenoside, submitted fake invoices to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in order to fund a cocaine habit.

All of the applications made were rejected by IPSA. Some related to work carried out by Arnold, others to a fictitious organisation called Confident About Autism South Yorkshire, and one to an email to IPSA in a "last effort" to get money following his arrest.

The jury found O'Mara also submitted a false contract of employment for his friend John Woodliff - who was found not guilty of the one charge of fraud he was standing trial accused of. The prosecution said on Thursday that the total value of the fraud was around 52,000.
