AFLPA set to launch whistleblower service after staggering survey results - 7NEWS

The AFL Players’ Association will launch a whistleblower service to allow players to report issues anonymously in an effort to encourage players to come forward.

This comes after a new report by the players’ association revealed many AFLW and AFL players are not confident to discuss problems openly for a fear of rocking the boat, with a prime example being the recent Hawthorn racism scandal that came to light many years later.

The AFLPA released the second edition of the Insights and Impact Report on Tuesday and has comprehensively summarised the state of the industry from AFL and AFLW players’ perspectives.

There was a 70 per cent response rate to questions posed across seven key themes: club environment, transition, player development, AFLPA programs and services, health and safety, human rights and accredited player agents.

The report states that AFL players had an average rating of 6.4/10 and AFLW players 7.2/10, in response to feeling their club allowed them to express their real views in the media.

“There are many areas of progress, but they also require future focus and that’s reflected in the second edition of the report,” AFLPA CEO, Paul Marsh said.
