After no vote on union, Perdue wrestles with new allegations in report - Delmarva Now

Following a September vote by Perdue AgriBusiness workers not to unionize, the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 27 Union has lodged a litany of allegations against the company.

What the union alleges Perdue has done

In the filing to the United States Labor Relations Board on Friday, Oct. 6, the union included 24 allegations that include:

  • employees were notified items like health care could "diminish or be eliminated" if unions won the election;
  • wages and terms of employment would cease, according to company management in a meeting with employees;
  • employees were told unionizing would not help address safety or wage grievances;
  • employees were told the National Labor Relations Board found collective bargaining to be potentially "hazardous" to workers;
  • And employees were told that a strike could lead to permanent replacements, to name just some of the complaints.

Aside from discouraging employees from discussing unionizing during breaks or wearing pro-union buttons, the complaints also cite examples of company management ending breaks early when the topic would arise. Among the key "exceptions," as allegations in the filing are called, include disseminating false information, and engaging "in improper conduct within the 24-hour period prior to the election," which is expressly prohibited under federal law.
