AI fake doctors spread false health claims - 조선일보

“Menopausal stubborn fat cannot be lost through exercise or diet alone. But if you take this, you’ll lose over 10 kg.”

Clicking on a video posted on Instagram on the 5th, a man introducing himself as a doctor who has operated an obesity clinic for 16 years made this claim. At first glance, it appeared to be a health information video featuring a doctor, but it was a “deepfake” created using AI (artificial intelligence). The video’s claims—“All clinical participants lost an average of 15 kg in four months” and “It excretes nine times the fat consumed”—were baseless.

Social media is seeing a rise in ads featuring “fake doctors” impersonating medical professionals. These videos disguise themselves as short edits of health programs but actually feature AI-generated characters. Most include phrases like “It’s dangerous” or “You must be careful” to exploit consumer anxiety. This newspaper analyzed 3,731 health-related ads posted by three supplement companies on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube with AI experts on the 5th and found that 695 (18.6%) featured fake doctors created by AI.

AI videos can be made in one minute by entering commands on generative AI sites that produce images and videos. Experts noted, “If skin wrinkles disappear unnaturally, the voice tone is overly consistent, or lip movements don’t match the dialogue, it’s an AI video.
