Amanatullah claims case against him false; police continue search for him; AAP says he is in Okhla - The Hindu

Two days after the Delhi police registered an FIR against Okhla MLA-elect Amanatullah Khan and launched a manhunt to nab him, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader on Wednesday wrote to Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora claiming the allegations against him are “false and baseless”.

He urged the police chief to “appoint an independent officer, as the present Investigating Officer is biased and is behaving arbitrarily”.

On the same day, AAP issued a statement saying its MLA-elect from south-east Delhi “is not absconding as claimed by the police” and is in his constituency.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh said he had not received any letter from Mr. Khan and that search operations to nab him are under way.

“I have not received any such letter. The investigation is being conducted, and we are trying to track him. We have not been able to establish any communication with him so far,” he said.

Mr. Khan was booked under various BNS Sections, including 132 (assaulting a public servant), 191 (rioting), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 111 (organised crime), on Monday for “obstructing a police team” and “helping a proclaimed offender and murder accused (Shavez) escape custody”. The police have conducted multiple raids since then to arrest him.
