Ambassador Fiona Fan Responds to False Claims Regarding Taiwan’s Sovereignty

The Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Fiona Huei-Chun FAN, has addressed recent false statements made by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) Ambassador to Dominica.

These statements pertain to the speech by Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister, Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, which expressed support for Taiwan and peace across the Taiwan Strait.

The claims falsely declare that “the PRC Government naturally has and exercises China’s full sovereignty, including the sovereignty of Taiwan…” and misinterpret the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758.

Ambassador FAN strongly protests and condemns these false claims. She reiterates that neither the Republic of China (Taiwan) nor the PRC is subordinate to the other; emphasizing that the Chinese communist regime has never governed Taiwan. She affirms that no distortion of Taiwan’s sovereign status can change the internationally recognized status quo across the Taiwan Strait.

Ambassador FAN also clarifies that UNGA Resolution 2758 does not mention Taiwan and is unrelated to Taiwan. She stresses that the resolution neither reflects nor equates to China’s so-called “one China principle.” In light of China’s continued misrepresentation of this resolution and its attempts to mislead the international community, Taiwan urges countries worldwide to collectively counter China’s unfounded claims.
