American Humane official: 'PETA's claims are false and defamatory' - Palm Beach Daily News

Ten PETA supporters gathered on the sidewalk in front of the Palm Beach Book Store on Thursday to protest at a book signing of American Humane CEO Robin Ganzert’s ''The Humane Table: Cooking with Compassion.''

The black-clad demonstrators, led by Wendy Fernandez of Fort Lauderdale, came equipped with bullhorns and signs. The group espouses the “vegan” way of life, according to Fernandez, who said, “the only true foods are vegan.”

Protesters from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals stood outside the bookstore during the 90-minute event, chanting, among other things: “Robin Ganzert has blood on her hands.”

In a press release issued Wednesday, PETA said: "Tomorrow, PETA supporters will form a ring of truth around American Humane CEO Robin Ganzert’s cookbook signing at the Palm Beach Book Store to point out that what’s marketed as a guide to 'compassionate cooking' is actually full of cruel animal-based recipes and recommendations for AH-certified food suppliers that PETA has exposed for rampant abuse.''

Tricia Lebkuecher, PETA’s manager of campaigns, expounded on the protest. '‘Robin Ganzert’s 'Humane Table' is a cruel cookbook. There is no such thing as humane meat. She has failed to protect animals. The only truly humane meal is vegan.”

Ganzert is the president and chief executive officer of American Humane, which has offices in Palm Beach. The book's recipes for dairy, beef, pork, poultry and eggs include the names of producers who...
