Anti-Corruption Chief Vows to Scrap Cap on Whistleblower Rewards - Seoul Economic Daily

Jung Il-yeon, chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), said Monday that he would "review the establishment of a basic law on rewards, including unifying the whistleblower reward system and abolishing the cap on rewards, so that public interest reporting cases can be handled at a level that meets public expectations."

Jung made the remarks during a luncheon meeting with the press corps at a restaurant in Jung-gu, central Seoul, saying, "We have designed our policy direction so that the public can more tangibly feel the effectiveness of the commission in the second year of the People's Sovereignty Government."

Jung said, "We will overhaul laws to prevent leakage of public finances, inspect areas vulnerable to fraudulent receipt of benefits, and strengthen anti-corruption laws to actively respond to corrupt practices."

"We will solidify the government-wide system for responding to civil complaints through measures to handle complaints and expand communication, as well as implementing a roadmap for collective conflict complaints and unusual complaints," he stressed. "We will strengthen support to enhance the capacity of public officials and complaint-handling agencies to respond to complaints, and continuously reduce repeated complaints by establishing processes at each agency to handle them."
