The strike at Wabtec Corp. has moved from the bargaining table and the picket lines into court.
The Pittsburgh-based locomotive manufacturer is asking a judge to issue an injunction that would bar the strikers from continuing to engage in what Wabtec claims is unlawful activity on the picket lines at the plant's gates in Lawrence Park Township.
Erie County Judge Erin Connelly Marucci scheduled a hearing on the request for Thursday morning, according to an order she filed Tuesday. Wabtec filed a motion for a preliminary injunction on Monday in Erie County Common Pleas Court.
Since the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America went on strike on June 22, according to Wabtec's motion, the striking workers have, among other things, used racist and homophobic slurs against non-striking employees entering and leaving the plant, damaged employees' personal vehicles, blocked the plant's gates and subjected the plant to two phoned-in bomb threats. Wabtec sued the UE in asking for the injunction.
