The decision to evacuate staff of the Nowzad animal charity from Afghanistan came from Boris Johnson, a Foreign Office whistleblower has claimed, as she accused the department’s most senior civil servant of having “intentionally lied” to parliament.
Josie Stewart, head of the illicit finance team at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), said it was “widespread knowledge” among the staff working on the frenetic evacuation from Afghanistan last year that “the decision on Nowzad’s Afghan staff came from the prime minister”.
In written evidence to the Commons foreign affairs committee, she condemned her department’s handling of the crisis, saying she felt “a strong sense of moral injury for having been part of something so badly managed”. She said that the staff processing applications from
