California man alleges he caught his wife poisoning his drinks with Drano, court documents say - Insider

A Newport Beach doctor said he caught his wife poisoning him with Drano on three separate occasions, a request for a restraining order filed on August 5 in the Orange County Superior Court showed.

Jack Chen filed for divorce and asked the court for a restraining order against his wife, Yue "Emily" Yu.

Yu was arrested on August 4 by the Irvine Police Department, a press release from the department said. She was released a day later after posting a $30,000 bail.

She has not been charged, and her attorney, David E. Wohl, told Insider, "Ms. Yu vehemently and unequivocally denies ever attempting to poison her husband or anyone else."

Chen said that his suspicions began around March and April when he noticed a "chemical taste" in his lemonade, which he typically likes to drink hot, court documents said.

When he developed symptoms, Chen, who is a radiologist, went to a doctor for an examination, the filing requesting a restraining order said, and it found two stomach ulcers, gastritis, and esophagitis.

"Based upon the diagnosis and my suspicions about the chemical taste, I put cameras in our kitchen," Chen's request for a restraining order said. "I obtained footage of Emily poisoning me...
