California Program Encourages Employers to Report Unclaimed Wages - Bloomberg Tax

California is establishing a voluntary compliance program to encourage certain employers to report unclaimed wages, under a bill (A.B. 2280) that will take effect Jan. 1, 2023.

Employers are required to report unclaimed wages after they remain unclaimed for one year, under state law. Employers that fail to report or remit unclaimed wages on time may be assessed interest or civil penalties by the state comptroller’s office.
