CHCH Report Amplifies UNICEF’s False Claims About Israeli Aid To Gaza - HonestReporting Canada

CHCH broadcast a report on November 11 by video journalist Manesa Dhanabalan,“UNICEF says Israel denying essential items into Gaza, preventing aid,” where the reporter provided a forum for the UN agency’s false allegations that Israel is withholding essential items, to little context and balance.

UNICEF has long been documented for its overt anti-Israel agenda, a point not mentioned in the broadcast. Instead, the CHCH journalist showed a clip of UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires who said that “we have still at least 935,000 bottles of ready-to-use infant formula stuck across the border since August.” Pires said that Israel is withholding the items as they are ‘dual-use,’ meaning that they could be co-opted for terror purposes.

Dhanabalan reported that “UNICEF says essential items including syringes to vaccinate children and bottles for baby formula are being denied entry into Gaza by Israel, preventing aid agencies from reaching those in need in the war-devastated territory.”

Dhanabalan did acknowledge that COGAT, Israel’s body for coordination with the territories, denies this. However, her reporting emphasized the accusation, giving it considerably more airtime than a brief denial by Israel.

She could have mentioned that COGAT not only rejected the allegation entirely, but noted that they find solutions for the entry of dual-use items and that they meet – every single day – with UNICEF to resolve aid entry issues. UNICEF never mentioned...
