Choi Jung-won, formerly of the group UN, has been cleared of the false accusation of being an adulterer.
On the 26th, Choi Jung-won stated on social media, “Regarding the various claims recently raised online, the facts have been clearly confirmed by the appellate court’s ruling.”
Previously, Mr. A, who was the husband of an acquaintance of Choi Jung-won, filed a lawsuit in December 2022, seeking 100 million won in damages, claiming that his marriage broke down due to an inappropriate relationship between Choi Jung-won and his wife.
He asserted, “The false claims spread by Mr. A, such as calling me an ‘adulterer,’ are not true, and the allegation that I demanded money and meetings, which Mr. A instructed his spouse to spread, is also false.”
He added, “The court recognized as guilty the act of instructing others to spread such false information (incitement to defamation). In the second trial, the court found Mr. A guilty of defamation, incitement to defamation, and intimidation, and imposed a fine of 3 million won.”
The released court decision confirmed Mr. A’s conviction. In addition, Choi Jung-won partially disclosed an audio recording, stating, “This is part of the conversation between Mr. A and his wife, in which he incited defamation against UN’s Choi Jung-won ahead of the 2022 civil lawsuit.”
